چکیده

A novel computational methodology, termed “Irregularly Portioned Lagrangian Monte Carlo” (IPLMC) is developed for large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flows. This methodology is intended for use in the filtered density function (FDF) formulation and is particularly suitable for simulation of chemically reacting flows on massively parallel platforms. The IPLMC facilitates efficient simulations, and thus allows reliable prediction of complex turbulent flames. Sample results are presented of LES of both premixed and nonpremixed flames via this method, and the results are assessed via comparison with laboratory data.

A Review of Some Monte Carlo Simulation Methods for Turbulent Systems

We provide a brief overview of some Monte Carlo methods which have been used to simulate systems with a turbulent fluid component. We discuss two main classes of simulation approaches: an “Eulerian” class which is based on a random velocity field model defined on a fixed coordinate system, and a “Lagrangian” class in which the motion of fluid particles and immersed particles are instead stochas...

A Simple Prediction Algorithm for the Lagrangian Motion in Two-Dimensional Turbulent Flows

A new algorithm is suggested for prediction of a Lagrangian particle position in a stochastic flow, given observations of other particles. The algorithm is based on linearization of the motion equations and appears to be efficient for an initial tight cluster and small prediction time. A theoretical error analysis is given for the Brownian flow and a stochastic flow with memory. The asymptotic ...

Application of PDF methods to compressible turbulent flows

A particle method applying the probability density function ~PDF! approach to turbulent compressible flows is presented. The method is applied to several turbulent flows, including the compressible mixing layer, and good agreement is obtained with experimental data. The PDF equation is solved using a Lagrangian/Monte Carlo method. To accurately account for the effects of compressibility on the ...
